You are already halfway through your degree program at UT and there are important areas to explore as you begin to think more about your future beyond UT and making the most of your remaining time as a UT student. Major/career connections, graduate and professional schools, leadership development, internship experience, international study and travel and other areas all become important in your personal plan for success. Consider the many learning opportunities you have to expand your boundaries and plan for your future.
Academic Curriculum
- It’s not too late to become a Peer Mentor for an FYS 101 course or an SI Leader
- Review the requirements for graduation – write down deadlines
- Meet with your academic advisor about graduate school preparation and summer opportunities
- Attend a daily 2:00pm International Education meeting for study abroad opportunities
- Choose electives to enhance your qualifications, especially your oral and written communication skills
Career
- Obtain related experience in your field through part-time employment, internships, practicum, field work, or volunteering
- Update your profile and resume in Hire-A-VOL to search for opportunities
- Enroll in one of Career Services' job seeking skills courses, attend workshops, and schedule a mock interview to prepare for your search
- Utilize Career Services' graduate school resources and workshops to research schools and programs; set deadlines for required steps
- Attend job fairs sponsored by Career Services throughout the year (traditionally one in the spring and fall)
- Meet with your professors and discuss your graduate school and career goals
Campus Involvement
- Check out student@tennessee online
- Apply early for organizations honoring seniors such as Mortar Board and/or career-related student professional associations and fraternities
- Apply for leadership positions like executive councils of campus organizations or philanthropies
- Attend free lectures sponsored by your college and major
Civic Engagement/Service Learning
- Ask your advisor about courses that include civic engagement or service learning opportunities
- Connect your major interest with a service learning project
Undergraduate Research
- Apply for UTK Undergraduate Summer Research Internships
- Apply for the annual spring Exhibition of Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement (EURēCA)
