Applying to a university and understanding academic policy is confusing enough for any student, but having to deal with transfer credits makes it even tougher. Your academic advisor, the SSC Academic Coaches, and the Registrar can help you figure out how and why the credits from your previous school transfer to your UT record, and what it means for your path to graduation from UT.
The University of Tennessee will accept transfer credit of similar content from accredited institutions. Coursework that leads to the Applied Science degree from Career/Technical programs is not transferable.
Transfer credit is granted for courses in which a grade of “C” or better was earned, except where an articulation agreement is completed, or an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree is completed at a Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) community college.
Often, coursework from an accredited institution will fulfill the University of Tennessee degree requirements, but there is no guarantee. In some instances coursework will transfer as elective credit. Those credits will count toward the overall hours required for graduation.
