Who, What, and How?
The UT LEAD program’s mission is to promote undergraduate success, academic excellence and persistence to graduation through a support program for selected students who have been awarded the Tennessee Pledge and/or Promise Scholarship.
After filling out your FAFSA form, you are awarded one of these scholarships. The SSC will then notify you if you have been selected to participate in the UT LEAD program. It’s that simple.
The UT LEAD Program is built on the principles of Leadership, Excellence, Achievement, and Diversity. As a member, you have access to:
- a comprehensive support program that features your own “academic coach,”
- special first-year seminars and academic success workshops,
- special tutoring/learning assistance,
- and the many other excellent resources and programs available to UT students.
LEAD Academic Coaches
A personal meeting with one of our LEAD Academic Coaches is one of the best ways to personalize your education and get you on track academically. It’s comfortable, low-maintenance, and low-drama. It’s a chance for you to talk about your own experience at UT, in and out of the classroom. You’ll be listened to and taken seriously.
In addition to helping you design strategies tailored to your specific situation, your UT LEAD Academic Coach stays on top of UT policies and might be aware of options you had not previously considered. All UT LEAD students meet with a LEAD Academic Coach once per semester. Students on Academic Probation are required to attend regularly scheduled meetings with an assigned LEAD Academic Coach. SSC data shows that UT LEAD students who utilize Academic Coaching and other SSC resources, such as Supplemental Instruction and Tutoring, increase their chances of academic success.
