UT LEAD Program

What is the UT LEAD Program?

The LEAD Program promotes academic excellence and undergraduate success through a support program for students who have been awarded the Tennessee Pledge and Tennessee Promise scholarships, as well as continuing AAA and AAIG students. As a Tennessee Pledge or Promise student, you will participate in special academic counseling programs, first-year seminars, leadership development programs, academic success workshops and other UT learning opportunities.

What does LEAD stand for?

  • Leadership in a diverse world,
  • Excellence in all endeavors,
  • Achievement through academic success,
  • Diversity as a core value in education and society.

These four principles serve as a focus for the UT LEAD Program.

Requirements for all first-year Tennessee Pledge and Promise Scholarship students:

  • Satisfy academic requirements for continuation of your scholarship (good academic standing—2.0 cumulative GPA)
  • Enroll in a UT LEAD section of First Year Studies 101: The UT Experience (fall semester)
  • Meet with your LEAD academic counselor as well as your assigned college academic advisor (fall and spring semesters)
  • Enroll in a section of First Year Studies 129: Freshman Seminar (spring semester)
  • Participate in academic success seminars presented by the UT LEAD academic counselors.
