{"id":50,"date":"2021-08-24T13:39:21","date_gmt":"2021-08-24T13:39:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/studentsuccess-dev.utk.edu\/academicsuccess\/?page_id=50"},"modified":"2026-02-20T11:53:48","modified_gmt":"2026-02-20T16:53:48","slug":"supplemental-instruction","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/studentsuccess.utk.edu\/academicsuccess\/supplemental-instruction\/","title":{"rendered":"Supplemental Instruction"},"content":{"rendered":"<hr class=\"orange-hash\">\n\r\n\r\n<h2>Supplemental Instruction (SI) sessions are free, out-of-class review sessions open to all students enrolled in an offered course.<\/h2>\n<hr class=\"orange-hash\">\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Vol Study Center data demonstrates that students who attend Supplemental Instruction on a weekly basis receive up to a full letter grade higher than those who don\u2019t attend. Participants also have higher GPAs and are more likely to remain in college!\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>SI review sessions are designed to encourage students to work together to develop study strategies, review material, and prepare for exams. SI Leaders are students who have completed the course that they are leading review sessions for. SI Leaders offer support and guidance as students learn material and develop strategies for succeeding in a course.<\/p>\r\n<p>SI is currently offered for the following courses:\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>Accounting (ACCT 200)<\/li>\r\n<li>Anthropology (ANTH 250)<\/li>\r\n<li>Biochemistry and Cellular and Molecular Biology (BCMB 401)<\/li>\r\n<li>Biology (BIOL 150, 160, 240)<\/li>\r\n<li>Chemistry (CHEM 122, 132, 260, 360)<\/li>\r\n<li>Ecology\/Evolutionary Biology (EEB 250)<\/li>\r\n<li>Economics (ECON 211)<\/li>\r\n<li>Finance (FINC 301, 306)<\/li>\r\n<li>Nursing (NURS 250)<\/li>\r\n<li>Statistics (STAT 201)<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How SI works<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Supplemental Instruction Leaders host review sessions for the course they have selected.
