Housing & Relocation Resources

Headed somewhere new for a job or internship? Got an internship, co-op, or first full-time job in a different city? You’ll need a place to live, sometimes for a summer, sometimes for much longer. This page brings together housing resources if you’re relocating for work or other career opportunities, including city-specific intern housing programs, national rental-search tools, and international housing options. Start by talking with your employer about any housing support they offer, then use the resources below to explore your options.

Start with your employer

Your employer should be your first source of information when you’re relocating. Many companies, especially those that regularly hire interns and new graduates, offer relocation support, housing recommendations, or temporary housing options.

  • Review the employer’s website to determine if information is provided.
  • Ask questions regarding housing and relocation information at any time during the process of application, interviewing, and the internship/co-op/job offer. “How have previous interns/fellows/co-ops found housing?” is a simple question that can offer valuable information to ease the decision making and transition process. Note: If you are offered the opportunity, be sure to ask before accepting the offer.
  • Ask any former interns with whom you are acquainted where they and other interns lived during their experience.
  • If your employer does not provide any information or any assistance finding information, the resources below might help.

If your employer provides relocation support, make sure any housing stipend or assistance is confirmed in writing before your start date.

About the resources below

The Center for Career Development & Academic Exploration provides these links as a service to students, but does not own, maintain, or endorse the third-party sites listed on this page. This is a curated directory to help you get started, not an exhaustive list of every housing option available. Always review listings carefully, read lease terms closely, and verify details directly with providers before sending any payment or signing an agreement. Be especially cautious of scams on roommate boards, classifieds, and short-term rental sites.
