Exploring Majors and Careers: <\/strong>COUN ED 205 (one credit, S\/N grading)<\/strong><\/p>\n

This course is designed to help first- and second-year students choose a major or career. Utilize assessments to understand how your interests, skills, personality, and values relate to UT majors and careers. Hear from college advisors, conduct research, and learn decision-making and goal setting strategies. The course meets for seven weeks and is offered during fall and spring semesters.<\/p>\n

Student Learning Outcomes:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Understand how to implement the career decision-making model\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Identify interests, skills, values, strengths, and personality traits and evaluate the impact on academic and career decision-making<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Identify majors available at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Utilize academic and career informational resources to gain confidence in decision-making process<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. Explore opportunities in experiential learning (internships, part-time jobs, volunteer opportunities, study abroad options, or other career related experiences) and how they relate to the development of career competencies<\/span><\/li>\n
  6. Articulate a plan to reach self-determined academic and career goals<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    First-Year Studies 101 for Exploratory Students: FYS 101 (one credit, A, B, C, <\/strong>NC grading)<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Enroll in FYS 101 your first semester at UT. The course follows the FYS 101 curriculum<\/a> with an emphasis on the career exploration process including self-assessment, major, and career research.<\/p>\n
