These tools are intended to streamline communication, clarify expectations, and ensure a smooth experience for everyone involved.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"830\" data-end=\"967\">If you have questions about any of the resources listed on this page, please contact the University Honors office\u2014we are happy to assist.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"830\" data-end=\"967\"><hr class=\"orange-hash\"><\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"830\" data-end=\"967\"><strong>Honors-by-Contract<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"110\" data-end=\"644\"><strong data-start=\"110\" data-end=\"138\">Honors-by-Contract (HBC)<\/strong> allows undergraduate students to earn honors credit in non-honors courses by completing additional, academically rigorous work beyond the standard course requirements.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"110\" data-end=\"644\">Through a collaborative agreement between the student and the instructor, an HBC project is designed to deepen learning, encourage critical thinking, and align with the goals of honors education. Once approved by University Honors, successful completion of the contract results in honors credit being added to the student\u2019s transcript.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"110\" data-end=\"644\"><strong>Examples of approved projects:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"175\" data-end=\"324\">\n<p data-start=\"177\" data-end=\"324\"><strong data-start=\"177\" data-end=\"201\">Independent research<\/strong> on a topic related to the course subject that is not covered in the regular class (this may include a class presentation).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"325\" data-end=\"527\">\n<p data-start=\"327\" data-end=\"527\"><strong data-start=\"327\" data-end=\"364\">An independent engagement project<\/strong> involving industry or community leaders, such as conducting interviews, creating transcripts, and synthesizing insights in a response paper or class presentation.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"528\" data-end=\"697\">\n<p data-start=\"530\" data-end=\"697\"><strong data-start=\"530\" data-end=\"571\">An expanded version of a course paper<\/strong>, incorporating additional scholarly sources, primary texts, increased depth of analysis, and\/or a greater length requirement.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"698\" data-end=\"833\">\n<p data-start=\"700\" data-end=\"833\"><strong data-start=\"700\" data-end=\"768\">For courses cross-listed at the undergraduate and graduate level<\/strong>, completing the same requirements expected of graduate students.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"834\" data-end=\"982\">\n<p data-start=\"836\" data-end=\"982\"><strong data-start=\"836\" data-end=\"864\">For experiential courses<\/strong>, completing structured, periodic reflections and\/or delivering a presentation on the experience after its completion.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"646\" data-end=\"1016\">Students may use the link below to apply for Honors-by-Contract. <strong data-start=\"711\" data-end=\"766\">Eligible courses must be at the 300 level or above.<\/strong> To apply, students should first speak with their course instructor to discuss an appropriate honors-level project. Once an agreement is established, students will submit the online HBC Application Form for review and approval by University Honors.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1018\" data-end=\"1282\">After the application is approved, the <strong data-start=\"1057\" data-end=\"1135\">Honors-by-Contract Completion Form is automatically sent to the instructor<\/strong> for end-of-term verification. Instructors may also access the Completion Form directly through the <strong data-start=\"1235\" data-end=\"1281\">University Honors page in the Employee Hub<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>*NOTE: the deadline for all HBCs for the Spring 2026 semester has passed.
