{"id":288,"date":"2014-08-22T17:35:51","date_gmt":"2014-08-22T17:35:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/honors.utdev3.wpengine.com\/?p=288"},"modified":"2014-08-22T17:35:51","modified_gmt":"2014-08-22T17:35:51","slug":"honors-film-series","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/studentsuccess.utk.edu\/honors\/2014\/08\/22\/honors-film-series\/","title":{"rendered":"Honors Film Series"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"  wp-image-289 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/studentsuccess.utk.edu\/honors\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2015\/01\/Screenshot-2014-08-22-11.32.47-300x232.png\" alt=\"Screenshot-2014-08-22-11.32.47\" width=\"427\" height=\"330\" srcset=\"https:\/\/studentsuccess.utk.edu\/honors\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2015\/01\/Screenshot-2014-08-22-11.32.47-300x232.png 300w, https:\/\/studentsuccess.utk.edu\/honors\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2015\/01\/Screenshot-2014-08-22-11.32.47-768x593.png 768w, https:\/\/studentsuccess.utk.edu\/honors\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2015\/01\/Screenshot-2014-08-22-11.32.47.png 990w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 427px) 100vw, 427px\" \/>Come join honors students, Honors and Scholars staff, and UT professors for a series of films that explore soical, political, and current issues. \u00a0Each film will be introduced\u00a0by a guest UT professor or faculty member followed by a post-Q &amp; A and discussion.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Ecstasy (1933,\u00a0Gustav Machat\u00fd) &#8211;<\/strong>\u00a0This black and white, racy film sent rifts throughout the world for its provocative scenes and themes never before seen on film. \u00a0Matthew Theriot is an Associate Professor at UT&#8217;s College of Social Work and teaches for UT&#8217;s First-Year studies program<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Inequality for All (2013, J<\/strong><strong>acob Kornbluth)<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; Inequality for All is a documentary film that looks into the economy of the United States and its ever widening gap between the rich and the poor. \u00a0This film is being shown in conjunction with the Anne Mayhew Lecture, featuring Keynote Speaker Robert Reich, author of the book\u00a0<em>Inequality For All,\u00a0<\/em>scheduled for Tuesday September 23rd. \u00a0Benjamin Compton, UT professor in the Department of Economics, will join us for the introduction and post-film Q &amp; A.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Psycho (1960, Alfred Hitchcock)<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; This horror-thriller Hollywood feature is considered by many to be one of the best films ever made. \u00a0The movie explores psychology and murder mystery. \u00a0Charles Maland, film studies professor in the Department of English, will explore themes and motifs present in the film.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Dead Poet&#8217;s Society (1989, Peter Weir)<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; This film\u00a0features the late Robin Williams and explores topics such as the\u00a0humanities, traditional education, and the future of youth.
