{"id":40,"date":"2016-07-01T14:19:45","date_gmt":"2016-07-01T14:19:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/onsf.utdev1.wpengine.com\/?page_id=40"},"modified":"2022-07-18T14:33:42","modified_gmt":"2022-07-18T18:33:42","slug":"soros","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/studentsuccess.utk.edu\/urf\/listings\/soros\/","title":{"rendered":"Soros Fellowship for New Americans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pdsoros.org\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-527 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/studentsuccess.utk.edu\/urf\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/07\/download.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"235\" height=\"214\" \/><\/a>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pdsoros.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Soros Fellowship<\/a> provides opportunities for continuing generations of able and accomplished New Americans to achieve leadership in their chosen fields.<\/p>\n<p>Candidates are selected by three <em>main<\/em> criteria:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The candidate has demonstrated creativity, originality and initiative in one or more aspects of her\/his life.<\/li>\n<li>The candidate has demonstrated a commitment to and capacity for accomplishment that has required drive and sustained effort.<\/li>\n<li>The candidate has demonstrated a commitment to the values expressed in the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights. This would include, but not be limited to, support of human rights and the rule of law, opposition to unwarranted encroachment on personal liberty, and advancing the responsibilities of citizenship in a free society.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><div class=\"box-light card tennessee orange tx brd-\"><p>\n<b><\/b><\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pdsoros.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Soros Fellowship Website<\/a><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center\">National Application Deadline: Late October<\/h4>\n<p>\n<\/div><strong>Eligibility Criteria:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Must be a \u201cNew American\u201d (a green card holder or naturalized citizen if born abroad; a child of naturalized citizens if born in this country)<\/li>\n<li>Not yet 31 years old, as of the application deadline<\/li>\n<li>A college senior or holder of a bachelor\u2019s degree<\/li>\n<li>Not beyond your second year \u2013 if already enrolled \u2013 in the graduate degree program for which you request support.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Application Process:<\/strong><br \/>\nThe application requirements include essays, transcripts, standardized test scores and letters of recommendation.
