<\/svg> Will VA cover out of state tuition?<\/a><\/h3><\/div>
<\/p>\n

No. VA will only pay the amount of in-state tuition and fees based on your post 9\/11 entitlement. Out-of-state tuition must be covered by either out-of-pocket expenses or external funds. However, you may be eligible for an out-of-state tuition waiver if you are using VA benefits and living in the state of Tennessee. For undergraduate residency, please contact the Office of the Registrar. For graduate residency, please contact Graduate Admissions.

<\/svg> Where do I go at UT for veterans services and assistance?<\/a><\/h3><\/div>
<\/p>\n

For assistance with Veteran Student Services please go to the Veterans Success Center G020 Hodges Library (ground floor) 1015 Volunteer Blvd. Walk-ins are welcome from 0800-1700. No appointment is necessary.

<\/svg> How do I become eligible for veterans benefits?<\/a><\/h3><\/div>
<\/p>\n

Eligibility is determined solely by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Visit the VA website (http:\/\/www.benefits.va.gov\/gibill\/<\/a>) or call the VA Education Hotline\/Call Center at 1.888.442.4551 to inquire about benefits.
\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n

<\/svg> How do I apply for my veterans benefits?<\/a><\/h3><\/div>
<\/p>\n

Apply for veterans education benefits directly online with the VA using their online\u00a0 application link (http:\/\/www.benefits.va.gov\/gibill\/<\/a>). If you are approved for VA education benefits, the VA will send you a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) award letter.
\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n

<\/svg> How do I initiate education benefits at UT for the first time?<\/a><\/h3><\/div>
<\/p>\n

Submit an electronic copy of the COE to the school certifying official (SCO). All veteran students or their dependents will also be asked to fill out an enrollment certification form. Click here<\/a>. Students must upload the COE with the enrollment form.
\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n

<\/svg> I previously used my benefits at a different school, how do I use them at UT?<\/a><\/h3><\/div>
<\/p>\n

If you are a transfer student and have used your VA education benefits at another institution and wish to transfer them to UT, update your online claim through the online veterans apply now link on the VA website.
\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n

<\/svg> What VA benefits are available to my son \/ daughter \/ spouse?<\/a><\/h3><\/div>
<\/p>\n

Chapter 33 POST 9\/11 and Chapter 35. To transfer your post 9\/11 benefits to your children or spouse please see the TEB checklist<\/a> for step by step instructions. For Chapter 35 DEA assistance please fill out the online veterans application claim on the VA website.
\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n

<\/svg> Am I eligible for other financial aid?<\/a><\/h3><\/div>
<\/p>\n

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (http:\/\/www.fafsa.ed.gov\/<\/a>) should be completed as soon as possible the previous academic year to determine your eligibility for financial aid. FAFSA results are communicated directly to the school and you should be notified of award packages through your UTK email. You have the ability to accept all or part of the financial aid package.<\/p>\n

\nIMPORTANT: Make sure you are filling out the FAFSA at the .ed.gov<\/u> address and not the .com <\/u>address. These are not the same thing.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/p>\n

The Helping Heroes Grant<\/strong> is also available to veteran students who meet certain criteria. This award is a grant (you do not pay it back) in the amount of $1,000 for each semester in which 12 credit hours were passed. You are only required to apply once per academic year and the award is on a first come-first served basis.
