At UT, we believe every student has a story and every story matters. As you develop your bestselling story, you may come across some stumbling blocks that could impede your success. It’s all part of the journey!
Being a scholar isn’t easy. Your time at UT will require hard work and dedication. To help you reach your goals, we put together a series of Vol Success Tips for you to incorporate into your scholarly routine. Browse through, and if something clicks, try it!
Get Involved
One of the things UT is known for is its Vol community. We’re all Vols here!
Finding your place on campus and building your community can help provide support for your college years.
You can use VolConnect to find events and VOLink to find ways to get involved.
You can always find Student Success events on VolConnect and on our Instagram!
Get Organized
Have you ever lost an assignment somewhere in your backpack? Yeah, we’re moving on to better systems.
Test different methods of staying organized, like using a whiteboard or spreadsheet to track your assignments, color code your classes, and carve time in your schedule for studying and for fun.
Both are vital to your success!
Stay Focused
It can be hard to stay focused, especially when you have a lot going on.
We recommend finding a good study spot and minimizing physical distractions in order to lock in.
Be intentional about your study time!
Tap into Your Strengths
Everybody has the natural talent to do big things—the trick is to know how your unique strengths serve you.
Take some time to complete and reflect upon your CliftonStrengths assessment and think about where you thrive.
Show Up & Show Out
Showing up is half the work.
Make the most of everything you go to by being present, preparing in advance and walk away learning something new.
Show up by being an active participant in all your classes. Show out by connecting with your faculty and peers and consider all that you’ve learned.
Prepare for Life After College
What’s next after college? Sometimes, we don’t have an answer to that question.
Utilize UT’s life career readiness resource, the Vol Edge, to sense how you can prepare for life after college while you’re still at UT.
Build your network and write your story; the best is yet to come!
Manage Your Time
Don’t think about your time management as what you shouldn’t be doing but rather what you could be doing!
Everyone has an individual way of managing their time. It’s crucial you try different methods of managing your time, whether that’s waking up early (or staying up late) to knock out some assignments or scheduling study blocks in your calendar.
Whatever you do, make sure it’s sustainable in the long run!
Strong Study Habits
Do you study better with music, or does it secretly distract you? Studying is only as effective as you make it.
Experiment with different settings and habits to gauge your perfect study settings—and make it a habit.
Get creative with sensory settings and build a routine that’ll carry you through your hardest classes.
Reach Out & Use Resources
Scholars never do anything alone. Whatever kind of support you need, whether that’s connecting with your Vol Success Team, your instructors, the Vol Study Center or another part of campus, we have your back.
Student Success is here for you. We believe you can do big things!
