Biography
Mary Reid Munford Martens holds a Master of Arts degree in Education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Princeton University. She comes to the University of Tennessee after serving as Academic Dean for The Traveling School, a high school semester program for girls that traveled in Southern Africa and South America.
Mary Reid has devoted her career to supporting and cultivating young leaders in a range of educational settings, spending over a decade working and teaching in public and private high schools across the US and abroad. As a teacher committed to experiential education, she used the world as a classroom, from exploring biology on a game drive in Botswana to learning about history and racial justice at historical sites in Atlanta, Georgia. Her educational practice is also informed by her time studying and working in Italy, South Africa, and Zambia, as well as her experience as an outdoor educator.
Outside of work, she enjoys exploring Knoxville on long runs, planning her next travel adventure, watching and reading British mysteries, and going hiking with her husband and dog.
