First-Gen Virtual Guidebook

As a first-generation college student, you are the first in your immediate family to attend college. While your parents might have some college experience, to be considered first-generation, they will not have earned degrees from four-year colleges or universities. If other relatives, including grandparents, aunts/uncles, and even siblings have earned degrees, you are still identified as first-generation. Being first should be a major point of pride.

Keep in mind that adjusting to life in college is a process. There will be experiences that will inspire and challenge you, and those that will help you grow personally and professionally. You should be proud of your achievements and know that at UT you are not on this journey alone. We will be with you every step of the way!
