Biography
Dr. Joe Scogin joined the University of Tennessee family in May 2013 and currently serves as Chief of Staff for the Division of Advancement. In his role, Dr. Scogin drives strategy and innovation for the division and serves as the chief administrative officer, supporting the leadership of the Senior Vice Chancellor for Advancement.
Dr. Scogin is passionate about the transformative power of leadership development and international engagement. Since earning his Ph.D. in Education, School, and Counseling Psychology at the University of Missouri, Dr. Scogin has served as a faculty member at the University of Missouri and the University of Tennessee. His primary academic areas of expertise include Positive Leadership in Sport, Leadership Development for Emerging Leaders, Socially Responsible Leadership, and Inclusive Leadership. Dr. Scogin teaches Inclusive Leadership for the Haslam Leadership Scholars Program and is responsible for leading the international study abroad experience. Since 2015, Dr. Scogin has led international leadership development programs in Brazil, Belize, Ecuador, Kenya, Rwanda, Philippines, and Vietnam. In May of 2024, he led the Haslam Leadership Scholars international experience to Rwanda and Kenya and the program recently announced the 2025 trip location to Cambodia and Vietnam.
