University Honors at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville offers multiple honors pathways for high-achieving students seeking academic rigor, leadership development, and meaningful engagement. From interdisciplinary problem-solving in the Chancellor’s Honors Program to cohort-based leadership in the Haslam Leadership Scholars Program and college- and department-level honors in competitive majors, students can choose the honors experience that best fits their goals while benefiting from honors advising, priority registration, and campus-wide opportunities.
Chancellor’s Honors Program
The Chancellor’s Honors Program (CHP) emphasizes interdisciplinary learning, complex problem solving, peer collaboration, innovation and impact.
Haslam Leadership Scholars Program
The Haslam Leadership Scholars Program (HALS) emphasizes interdisciplinary learning, leadership, experiential learning and a focus on Tennessee in a small cohort-based format. Students practice leadership in real organizational, community, and policy contexts. Leadership development in HALS is academically grounded, assessed, and outcomes-driven.
College-level Honors Programs allow students to signal distinction within highly competitive majors such as engineering, business, pre-health, and nursing. Most of the colleges as UTK offer disciplinary depth with honors programs that range from grand challenges in engineering, to global business leadership, to nursing and social work research and more. These programs integrate seamlessly with major requirements—without extending time to degree.
