How the University Honors Application Process Works

University Honors welcomes applications from prospective first-year students and transfer students, with different pathways depending on your student status.
First-Year Application
If you are a prospective first-year student, your first step is to apply to the University of Tennessee, Knoxville by the early action deadline. After applying to UT, qualified students receive an invitation by email to apply to University Honors.

Transfer Application
If you are a transfer student, you can apply to the Chancellor’s Honors Program for a future fall start. Transfer students with more than 30 credit hours may also want to explore college or departmental honors opportunities in addition to University Honors.

Meet with University Honors

A visit can help you better understand whether University Honors is the right fit for your goals, interests, and college experience. Prospective students and families can schedule a 30-minute in-person or virtual meeting with a University Honors representative.
- In-person visits are available Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
- Virtual visits are currently available Mondays and Thursdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
- Visit requests should be submitted at least three business days in advance.
- When schedules allow, students may also connect with an Honors Ambassador to hear directly from a current Honors scholar.
If you are planning to visit Knoxville in-person, it is recommended to pair a University of Tennessee campus tour with your in-person Honors meeting.
