UT Promise on Rocky Top

Supporting Student Success through Mentorship, Service, and Career Readiness

UT Promise on Rocky Top is a comprehensive initiative designed to empower students with financial aid, mentorship, and service-learning opportunities.

This program ensures that scholars not only succeed academically but also thrive professionally and personally throughout their college journey.

The program is a unique cohort experience for University of Tennessee, Knoxville, students eligible for the UT Promise Scholarship program. As a reminder, the UT Promise is a last-dollar scholarship available to qualifying students.

Program’s Purpose

  • Enhance student success through structured mentorship opportunities.
  • Connect meaningful engagement in service with academic and professional goals.
  • Support scholars’ ability to meet the academic and programmatic eligibility requirements for the UT Promise Scholarship.

Service and Career Integration

Vols help Vols.

Service is at the heart of the UT Promise on Rocky Top program and the UT Knoxville community. You’ll have numerous opportunities to give back through various projects and initiatives.

The program emphasizes the importance of service as work-based learning that provides an opportunity for hands-on engagement. These experiences ensure you learn to translate your academic achievements and service experiences into career-ready skills.

Scholars in UT Promise on Rocky Top are required to complete eight hours of service each fall and spring semester.

You will have a variety of on-campus and off campus opportunities such as:

Mentorship Models

Mentorship embodies the Volunteer Creed: “One who carries a torch stands in shadows to give light to others.”

One of the key benefits of the UT Promise on Rocky Top program is access to expanded mentorship opportunities. Scholars must complete two mentor engagements each semester and will have a variety of ways to identify and connect with academic and professional mentors on campus, within Knoxville, and beyond.

You can complete your mentorship in many ways, including:

  • Mentorship from academic and career coaching within the Division of Student Success.
  • The UT LEAD Speaker Series sponsored by the UT Alumni Board of Directors.
  • Peer mentoring from the best and brightest on Rocky Top.
  • Faculty mentorship for academic and/or career specific research, capstone experiences, or learning abroad.
  • Connections with industry, including UT alumni, to explore practical real-world advice to reach your goals.
