Cooper Phillips

Cooper Phillips joined University Honors in the summer of 2026.

Originally from Knoxville, Cooper holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He also holds a Master of Arts in History from the University of Memphis. Currently, he is a PhD candidate with the University of Memphis’ Department of History, and is working on his dissertation, writing on the ideological aspects of New Kingdom Egyptian temple iconography.

Prior to this role, Cooper served as a teaching assistant at the University of Memphis, where he taught and facilitated history courses. Additionally, with a lifelong passion for historical and archaeological research, he has participated in numerous overseas research projects in Egypt, Greece, Morrocco, and, most recently, Cyprus.

In his free time, he enjoys fly fishing in the Great Smoky Mountains and learning new languages.

Cooper is the Honors coach for the Tickle College of Engineering, Baker School for Public Policy, College of Nursing, and the College of Communication and Information Sciences.
