The Churchill Scholarship

The Churchill Scholarship funds 18 scholarships per year, comprised of 16 scholarships in science, mathematics, and engineering, and two Kanders Churchill Scholarships in science policy. The Scholarship funds a one-year Master’s at the University of Cambridge. The scholarship covers tuition, roundtrip airfare to the UK, visa fees and health surcharge, and a stipend. Eligible courses at Cambridge include archaeology, astronomy, biological sciences, chemical engineering and biotechnology, chemistry, computer laboratory, earth sciences, engineering, geography, materials science and metallurgy, mathematics, medical sciences, physics, and veterinary medicine.

Eligibility

Churchill applicants must be nominated by their undergraduate institution (UTK). Each nominating institution can send forward two candidates per year for consideration. To be eligible for nomination consideration, applicants must:  

  • Be a citizen of the United States, either native-born or naturalized 
  • Be enrolled in one of the Participating Institutions (UTK) 
  • Due to graduate during the same academic year as the deadline or be a student who has graduated from one of those institutions within the past 12 months before the deadline 
  • Have a bachelor’s degree by the start of the Cambridge program 

Criteria for Selection

  • Outstanding academic achievement particularly in the STEM courses 
  • Proven talent in reach such as laboratory experience, internships, or other related work 
  • Outstanding personal qualities as demonstrated by interests and achievements outside of research
