Top 5 Reasons to Attend a Job Fair

UT’s Center for Career Development & Academic Exploration is preparing for one of the most exciting times on Rocky Top – job fair season!

This spring the center is hosting multiple job and internship fairs bringing in top-rated employers from across the country and collaborating on major-specific fairs being offered by colleges and programs on campus.

This semester’s largest fairs are the Spring Job Fair:

  • Day 1: Business and Government on February 20
  • Day 2: Engineering and Tech on February 21

Both events are from 2 p.m.-6 p.m. in the Student Union Pilot Company Ballroom.

Leading up to the fairs, Vols can attend Prepare for the Fair February 14 in 262 Student Union to get resume and interviewing tips, attend workshops, and take their professional headshot in the photo booth.

In addition, students should review the top five reasons to attend a job fair and visit their Handshake account to find other fairs, like the Education, Non-Profit and Social Service fair, offered throughout the semester.

Don’t miss these excellent opportunities to further your career goals, and learn how to prepare for a successful job fair.

Top 5 Reasons to Attend a Job Fair

  1. Land a job or internship! Rarely will you find so many hiring organizations in one place at one time than at a job fair. Don’t miss this opportunity to connect with them face-to-face.
  2. Network: Make professional connections with hundreds of company representatives who attend the fair. Many are UT alumni and are happy to speak with you. Practice your “30-second commercial” with them.
  3. Show Your Vol Pride: Talk to employers about your accomplishments inside and outside the classroom. Find out what you still need to gain to become the best candidate!
  4. Explore Options: Speak to representatives about their industries, jobs, and internships to discover more about the work that appeals to you. Ask about company culture and entry-level opportunities to help define your career goals.
  5. Practice: Attending career fairs before you’re in the market for a job allows you to experience the environment firsthand and build confidence. Observe successful job search behaviors and professional dress so you’re ready to hit the ground running in the future.
