Orientation advising information

Get ready for your orientation advising appointment

If you’ve confirmed your enrollment at UT, your next step is summer orientation. During your orientation advising appointment in June or July, you’ll meet your Academic and Career Exploration (ACE) Coach, talk through your major and career interests, and plan and register for your first semester of classes. Come prepared, use the checklist below to make the most of your appointment.

How to prepare for orientation advising

Complete these six steps before your appointment so you can spend the time on what matters most, your plan.

  1. Complete your Learning About You form. The Center for Career Development & Academic Exploration will email this form to you, it helps your ACE Coach prepare for your appointment.
  2. Set up your Duo mobile account so you can log into your UTK accounts during the appointment. Get setup instructions at oit.utk.edu/accounts/2fa/.
  3. Test your UTK email and Zoom accounts before your appointment. Confirm the microphone and speaker work. Check your UTK email frequently, your ACE Coach and other offices send important information there.
  4. Plan to attend your appointment from a computer (not a phone), in a quiet space where you can focus, not at work, while driving, or in noisy rooms. ACE Coaches may reschedule appointments if these conditions aren’t met.
  5. Send your AP, IB, and dual enrollment credit. Visit admissions.utk.edu/prior-learning-credits/ for instructions. Bring copies of this information to your appointment.
  6. Come prepared to discuss your interests, strengths, values, and class ideas with your ACE Coach. Three ways to get ready:
