University Honors is delighted to welcome 14 new scholars this fall to the 2025 class of Haslam Leadership Scholars at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. 

The university’s premier undergraduate honors program, the Haslam Leadership Scholars program focuses on leadership, service, and scholarship. Founded in 2008 through a generous gift from the Haslam family, Haslam Leadership Scholars receive an endowed scholarship that covers the cost of tuition, fees, housing, and funding to support individual research.

When Scotty Brown stepped onto the University of Tennessee, Knoxville campus, he imagined a future in public service. Just a few years later, the sophomore finance major from Signal Mountain, Tennessee, is charting a different—but equally ambitious—course: a coveted investment banking internship with J.P. Morgan in New York City, one of the first UT students in six years to do so.  

The nine-week internship program supports full-time analysts, associates, and senior bankers across live deals, client pitches, and other internal projects. Interns gain experience conducting financial analysis and modeling, developing client-facing pitch books, industry overviews, industry & company research, and live deal execution support.

University of Tennessee, Knoxville, senior Lauren Urbi has been accepted to CLS Spark, an initiative of the Critical Language Scholarship program.

Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, the program will support Urbi as she gains critical language skills and intercultural competence that will bolster her career readiness.

CLS Spark provides opportunities for American undergraduate students to study Arabic, Chinese, Korean, Japanese and Russian online at a beginner level. Students who participate receive academic credit, a stipend for equipment costs, and noncompetitive eligibility for employment in the U.S. government for up to three years after program completion.

The Office of Undergraduate Research & Fellowships (OURF) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville has announced junior Layla Moore has been named a finalist for the prestigious and highly competitive Truman Scholarship.

Layla is among 201 finalists chosen from a pool of 743 applications representing 288 institutions nationwide.

Tyler Myers, a senior at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, has been awarded the Churchill Scholarship. The prestigious scholarship supports students furthering their education in the fields of science, mathematics and engineering.

The scholarship is awarded to 18 students annually, funding one year of master’s study at the University of Cambridge while positioning recipients at the forefront of scientific and technological research. Recipients can also apply for a $4,000 special research grant, making the total value of the award approximately $75,000. Students are selected based on outstanding academic achievement, proven talent in research and outstanding personal qualities.
