Take assessments
Choosing a major is one of the most important decisions you’ll make during college, and understanding yourself is a great place to start. Career assessments can help you identify your interests, strengths, and values, providing insights into what motivates you and where you may thrive.
Assessments
You have online access to several assessments to help you choose a major or career path. Take one or more before your exploration appointment, and an ACE coach will walk you through your results, connecting them to specific UT majors, courses, and careers.
Strong Interest Inventory
Not sure what major or career is right for you? The Strong Interest Inventory (SII) can help you explore your options. This assessment identifies your unique interests and compares them to people who are happy in a wide range of careers.
After completing the assessment, you’ll meet with an Academic & Career Exploration coach to review your results, discover your strongest interest areas, and learn how they connect to potential majors and career paths.
To get started, schedule an Unsure of Major appointment through Vol Connect, call 865-974-5435, or email [email protected] to get the assessment link.

Values Inventories
Your values can play a big role in the life you want to build. Work values include things like salary, work environment, schedule, benefits, pace, and the type of tasks you enjoy. Lifestyle values reflect what matters most to you outside of work, such as where you want to live, family priorities, travel, and work-life balance.
Explore careers that align with your values using CareerOneStop’s Work Values Matcher. For a more personalized approach, schedule an Academic and Career Exploration (ACE) coach appointment to take a card sort.

Skills Inventories
Skills play a critical role in career development. Identify your skills by reflecting on your personal accomplishments, classroom performance in various subjects, previous jobs or volunteer positions held, and feedback you receive from others.
