Academic advising

Meet with the academic advisor assigned to your college to talk through your major, course selection, and degree progress. Advisors are reached directly rather than through Vol Connect.

Academic coaching

Meet with a professional academic coach, in person or on Zoom, for help with study skills, time management, goal setting, and exam preparation. Sessions usually run about 30 minutes.

Academic & Career Exploration appointments


Academic & Career Exploration coaches advise University Exploratory and University Transition majors, and help anyone weighing a major change or declaring a major.

Career coaching

Meet one-on-one with a career coach. Current students schedule through Vol Connect in MyUTK with your NetID. Graduate students and recent alumni contact their career coach directly.

PLA Study Sessions

Meet one-on-one or get small-group support for over 180 courses, led by trained peers who have successfully completed the class. Build confidence with course content, exam preparation, time management, and effective study strategies.

Research & fellowships

Meet with a research and fellowships coach to develop your ideas and connect with resources for undergraduate research, nationally competitive awards, and fellowships. Scheduled through Vol Connect.

University Honors

Meet with a University Honors representative to talk through the Honors experience, admissions questions, and ways to get involved.

Academic success drop-ins

Academic Success Center Coaching

Drop-in Academic Coaching offers personalized, one-on-one support to strengthen your academic skills and performance. Visit the Academic Success Center Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. (Tuesdays, 12–5 p.m.).

Student Success Express

Student Success Express allows students to engage with academic advising, tutoring, career development, One Stop, and other key support services with drop-in extended weekday hours.

Vol Study Center

Drop in for study sessions, Supplemental Instruction, study space, and free printing. No appointment needed.

Vols Study 24/7

To ensure that all scholars have support any time of day, Vols Study 24/7 provides you with academic support in over 150 subjects.

Peer Career Advisor drop-in hours

Peer Career Advisors are trained student staff who can help with resumes, cover letters, LinkedIn, Handshake, job and internship searching, professional headshots, and more.

  • Held in the CCDAE, Student Union 201 (right above Starbucks)
  • Monday through Thursday, 10am to 3pm
  • Last check-in is 15 minutes before closing

Email your resume as a PDF or Word document to [email protected] with the subject line Resume Drop. Include your name, major, year, and what you’re using the resume for (job, internship, class assignment, grad school, scholarship). Receive personalized video feedback within 5 business days.

Vol Edge self-paced practice

Vol Edge is self-paced and available whenever you are. Use it to review your resume, practice interview questions, and build career skills before you meet with anyone.

How to schedule in Vol Connect

Most Student Success appointments are booked in Vol Connect, which you reach through MyUTK with your NetID.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Log into your MyUTK account.
  2. Click “Academic Support” at the top, then “Vol Connect” from the dropdown.
  3. Click “Connect” at the top, then “Schedule Appointments.”
  4. Click the blue “Schedule an Appointment” button.
  5. Select the “Teams” tab, then pick the team that matches what you need. Choose Center for Career Development & Academic Exploration for career coaching and exploration, Academic Success Center for study strategies, or Undergraduate Research and Fellowships for research and fellowships.
  6. Pick your topic, subtopic, date, time, staff member, and modality. Say what you would like to discuss in the comment box.
  7. Click “Schedule [Topic] Appointment”. Your appointment is not saved until you click this button.

If you do not have a NetID

Vol Connect requires a current NetID. Recent alumni can call 865-974-5435 to reach a career coach. For anything else, use the Contact page to reach the right department directly.
