VOLintern Program

About the Program

Launching in spring 2026, the University of Tennessee, Knoxville’s VOLintern Program creates meaningful, career-focused opportunities for students – without leaving campus.

By partnering with departments across the university, the VOLintern program provides paid internship experiences that strengthen professional development, support underserved majors, and prepares Volunteers for life after graduation by aligning with post-graduation workforce trends.

VOLintern Program Goals

Through partnering with various on campus employers by supporting internship wages, training supervisors on best-practices, and providing additional professional development for student interns, the VOLintern program seeks to accomplish the following goals:

  • Create new roles and elevate relevant existing student employment opportunities into fully scaled internships to allow students increased access to experiential learning opportunities.
  • Develop internships for students whose curricular requirements do not include course-based career support or embedded pre-professional experiences.
  • Offer support and streamlined process for campus partners to offer high impact experiential learning opportunities
  • Curate opportunities aligned with demonstrated career outcomes gaps.
