The Vol Study Center offers one-on-one, group, and exam prep study sessions for nearly 300 courses. Peer Learning Assistants (PLAs) host study sessions primarily by appointment but they also accept drop-ins. Appointments can be in-person or via Zoom.
Years of data demonstrate that students who attend study sessions receive higher course grades, have higher GPAs, and are more likely to remain in college!
Our Peer Learning Assistants (PLAs) are undergraduate students who have successfully taken the courses for which they offer assistance. All PLAs are trained in active learning, learning strategies, and topics including exam preparation, time management, and more. They can work with you on course content as well as strategies for success and can refer you to other campus resources where needed.
We offer one-on-one (or small group) weekly sessions where you meet with a PLA on the same day and time. Spaces are limited, so request a weekly appointment early. Due to high demand, we are limiting the amount of sessions that can be reserved for each course; Students may schedule 3 appointments per course at a time. If you are currently registered with Student Disability Services and would like to the option to schedule additional appointments in advance, please contact your SDS Coordinator.
Our services are offered at no cost at six locations across campus. To make your own appointment, search for ASC Vol Study Center on Vol Academic Connect (Navigate). You can also use this link to fill out an appointment request: request a weekly appointment. Once you have completed an appointment request, a staff member from the Vol Study Center will schedule an appointment and reach out with the details. If you have any questions, please contact the Vol Study Center at volstudycenter@utk.edu.
*Summer 2023 Note: all study sessions are online and by appointment only – meaning no drop-in study sessions are available!
