Please submit this form as soon as you are able to register. During peak times, processing can take up to 6-8 weeks. Failure to turn this form in each semester will result in non-payment.

The Bursar’s Office will send automated emails regarding the balance. Please do not ignore them if you are receiving VA benefits. Call our office at 865-974-5420 if you believe you should be on fee deferment and you see that you are not when you log in to MyUTK.

- Provides a monthly Base Allowance for Housing stipend based on the E-5 with dependent rate as determined by the VA.(School Zip Code 37996). Stipend sent directly to student. For questions about your stipend call VA 1-888-442-4551. The rate is also determined by the percentage of eligibility.First full Month of BAH (Fall-October/ Spring- March) Stipend Is prorated for months that you are not enrolled for the full 30 days. Stipend is always paid one month behind.
- Provides a book stipend of $1,000 per academic year (August 1-July 31), based on $41.67 per credit hour.You will receive a percentage of the full stipend if you are less than 100 percent entitlement
- Students must complete a monthly enrollment verification with VA. Failure to complete the monthly verification may result in nonpayment of your Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH).

- Students using chapters 33, 30, and 1606 MUST verify their enrollment each month with the VA to receive BAH stipend. VA will hold your BAH if you fail to complete the monthly enrollment.
- Recommend to “opt in” to the text message system- instead of email. Payments are sent faster.
- You are verifying the number of credit hours & start and end dates of enrollment.
Chapter 31 Vocational Rehabilitation VR&E
Students must have a 10% service-connected disability to qualify for services.
Student veterans must be approved by a VR&E counselor before they can receive benefits. All tuition, fees, and course fees are billed directly to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The monthly stipend is sent directly to the student.
-VR&E Pays (mandatory in-state tuition and fees, total access fees, parking, and all required books at the VolShop).
-Can also receive up to $75.00 towards books and supplies at the VolShop.
-Monthly stipend is the same as the chapter 33 stipend if you have remaining chapter 33 benefits when you apply. Please talk with your counselor if you are receiving a lower rate.
Chapter 35 Dependent Education Assistance
Students receive a monthly stipend while attending classes. UT does not receive tuition money from this benefit; the student pays tuition directly. The student is responsible for all costs of attendance, including tuition, fees, housing, meals, and parking.
Dependents and spouses are eligible for this benefit if their parent has received a 100% permanent and total disability rating from the VA.
Chapter 30, 1606, 1607
Students receive a monthly stipend while attending classes. UT does not receive tuition money from this benefit; the student pays tuition directly. The student is responsible for all costs of attendance, including tuition, fees, housing, meals, and parking.
The stipend is directly deposited into your bank account.

***Effective July 1, 2017** OUT OF STATE TUITION WAIVER for dependents
A (dependent or spouse) individual eligible to receive educational benefits administered by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, through any provision of federal law, may not be required to pay out-of-state tuition or any out-of-state fee when the other individual is:
- Enrolled in any public institution of higher education in Tennessee.
- Utilizing such benefits at the enrolling institution
- Living in Tennessee, regardless of the individual’s formal state of residency.
*** Effective August 1, 2022, out-of-state tuition waiver for all military service members
All military service members receive in-state tuition rates at any UT system school regardless of residency.
Military service members include veterans, active duty, National Guard, and reserve.
Students utilizing the TN Strong Act may also receive in-state tuition. ROTC cadets can also receive in-state tuition rates.
