How to Schedule An Appointment

The Center for Career Development and Academic Exploration is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time Zone) except for major holidays or university closings. Contact exploration@utk.edu with questions. 

Current University Exploratory Students 

Continuing students in the University Exploratory major will receive an email to schedule an appointment through Vol Connect before course registration begins. Students who would like to meet before then or additionally should contact their ACE Coach directly.

Current University Transition Students

Continuing students in the University Transition major will receive an email to schedule an appointment through Vol Connect before course registration begins. Students who would like to meet before then or additionally should contact their ACE Coach directly.

Declaring University Exploratory or University Transition

Students who want to declare the University Exploratory or University Transition majors should complete the intake form. Students will receive an email to schedule an appointment.

Readmitted/Dismissal Reinstatement

The ACE Team is available to help readmitted students or those participating in dismissal reinstatement with major exploration and parallel planning. Students should complete the intake form. Students will receive an email to schedule an appointment.

 


Preparing for an Appointment 

Academic advising is not only an opportunity to plan courses for the upcoming semester, it is a chance to discuss academics and career goals to make future plans and access resources. In order to make the most of your semester advising appointment, follow these steps to prepare. 

  1. Review majors you are considering in the Undergraduate Catalog, identify courses of interest, and identify requirements 
  2. Run a DARS report for majors of interest to see progress towards degree completion 
  3. Familiarize yourself with the adjacent majors page to consider parallel plans 
  4. Use the Explore Majors and Careers Page to identify helpful exploration tools like: 
    1. What Can I Do With This Major? 
    2. Strong Interest Inventory and PathwayU Assessments 
    3. Career Courses 
    4. And more

Advising Forms 

  • Academic Catalog – complete lists of majors and minors, vol core requirements, and academic policies 
  • Academic Plan – used for semester course planning 
  • AP/IB/CLEP – scores required for credit 
  • DARS -Degree Audit Report System, track progress towards particular majors 
  • Transfer Equivalency Tables – Identify appropriate transfer courses for UTK credit 
  • Transfer Process – Transfer application, FAQ’s. etc. 
  • Vol Core Petition Form – Petition transfer courses for vol core credit
