Transition advising
If you’ve become ineligible for your declared major as a continuing student, Transition Advising can help you find a new path. You’ll work with an Academic & Exploration (ACE) Coach for one semester to identify a major from which you can graduate. After that semester, you’ll be assigned to a new academic advisor aligned with the major you choose.
This program is only for students transitioning at UT (excludes transfer and readmitted students).
Transition advising tracks
The University Transition program has two tracks based on how many credit hours you’ve attempted. Your ACE Coach will help confirm which track you’re in.
University Early Transition
For students who have attempted fewer than 60 credit hours. If you’re an Early Transition student, you remain eligible for state and federal financial aid as long as you meet other aid eligibility criteria.
University Advanced Transition
For students who have attempted 60 or more credit hours. Students in Advanced Transition are not eligible for state or federal financial aid during the transition semester. This is an important consideration when planning your transition.
Transition advising appointments
Have you been referred to transition advising? Start with the ACE intake form. Your responses help the ACE Team decide whether Transition Advising is the right fit or whether you’d be better served by an Unsure of Major appointment or a referral to a college’s advising center.
If you’re already assigned to an ACE Coach, don’t complete the intake form again, contact your ACE Coach directly to request an appointment.
Parallel planning
If you’re ineligible for your major of choice, your ACE Coach can help you build a parallel plan, identifying another major that’s structurally similar to your first choice and can still get you to your career goals. Planning is a core part of how ACE Coaches work with transition students. Start by reviewing the list of Adjacent Majors that pair with selective UT programs.
