First-Year Student Orientation advising will occur virtually in June and July. Once students have confirmed their enrollment to UTK they will need to register for orientation here. After students have registered for orientation they will receive more communication from the Center for Career Development and Academic Exploration about summer orientation advising.
During summer orientation advising appointments students will meet one on one with their Academic and Career Exploration Coach (assigned academic advisors). During this meeting students will discuss major and career interests, plan and register for courses, and learn more about the academic catalog and policies.
Students can prepare for orientation advising by completing the following items:
- Complete their Learning About You form emailed by the Center for Career Development and Academic Exploration. This information will help ACE Coaches prepare for your appointment.
- Setup their Duo mobile account so that they can log into their UTK accounts during appointments. For information about setting up duo mobile go to: https://oit.utk.edu/accounts/2fa/
- Log into their UTK email and Zoom accounts prior to their appointment to ensure they work properly. Check that the microphone and speaker work. It’s important to check UTK email frequently for important information from ACE Coaches and other offices.
- Plan ahead to ensure that they are able to attend their appointment using a computer (not a phone) during a time that they are able to focus (not at work, driving, noisy rooms, etc.). ACE Coaches have the right to reschedule appointments if students do not follow these guidelines.
- Send AP/IB scores and dual enrollment credit. It’s a good idea to bring copies of this information to summer advising appointments.
- Come prepared to discuss their interests, strengths, values, and classes with ACE Coach. Here are some ways to come prepared:
- Complete PathwayU to learn more about your interests, values and workplace preferences.
- Review UTK Catalog to learn more about majors and classes that interest you.
- Utilize our career exploration resources found here.
